RISD Art Museum in Providence, RI: Ancient art to contemporary 

Located in Providence, Rhode Island and distinguished by its relationship to one of the world's top art and design schools, the RISD Museum is an internationally renowned art museum founded in 1877.  Housing over 100,000 objects-ranging from Asian art to work by contemporary artists and designers from across the globe, the RISD Museum's broad range of works include pieces from ancient Egypt, Asia, Africa, ancient Greece and Rome, Europe, and the Americas.
 
Expect to see works by prominent artists including Monet, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Paul Revere, Chanel, and Kara Walker. The collections also feature notable works by Rhode Island artists and designers, including 18th-century Newport furniture makers Goddard and Townsend and 19th-century Rhode Island painters such as Anglo-American impressionist John Noble Barlow and portraitist Gilbert Stuart.

Prices -

Adults: $15, Senior citizens (age 62+): $12, Youth (ages 0-18): Free
College students: $8 with valid college ID, Admission is free every Sunday and on the third Thursday evening of each month (5-9 pm).
 

Hours -

Tuesdays - Sundays: 10 am - 5 pm, every third Thursday of each month, open until 9 pm.

  • Does RISD Museum have any restaurants or shops?

    Yes, when hunger strikes, Café Pearl offers a menu of coffee-based beverages and light fare from Providence-based bakeries, as well as and their own signature creations. There is a museum gift shop, RISD WORKS, located in the Chace lobby. It features wares designed or made by RISD alumni and faculty including merchandise supporting the Museum’s exhibitions and collections. 
  • Is RISD Museum family friendly?

    Yes, the Museum at RISD is very family-friendly and includes opportunities for children and adults to learn together through creative thinking, visual interpretation, and hands-on interactive exhibits. There are programs catered to children 3+, including a teen art program. There are even special tours geared just for tots.
